Biocatalytic oxidative cross-coupling reactions for biaryl bond formation

Lara E. Zetzsche et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of cytochrome P450 enzymes for biocatalytic cross-coupling reactions, enabling the formation of sterically hindered biaryl bonds through oxidative C-C bond formation. By engineering the substrate and atroposelectivity of the P450 enzyme, a highly efficient and selective process has been developed.

Tunable Silver-Catalyzed Nitrene Transfer: From Chemoselectivity to Enantioselective C-H Amination

Wentan Liu et al.

Summary: Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H aminations via nitrene transfer processes are powerful synthetic methods to construct valuable amines. Recent efforts in silver-catalyzed nitrene transfer reactions have achieved chemo-, site-, and enantioselective transformations using simple N-dentate ligands. These findings serve as a foundation for future investigations of other tunable C-H functionalizations.

Designing radical chemistry by visible light-promoted homolysis

Stefano Protti et al.

Summary: The use of visible light to facilitate synthetic processes has been rapidly growing in recent years. In the context of eco-sustainable strategies involving the generation of reactive intermediates, the search for compounds capable of directly undergoing photocleavage of a labile X-Y bond by visible photons presents an intriguing alternative to colored photocatalysts. This review focuses on the recent developments in designing compounds with such X-Y moieties for radical chemistry under photocatalyst-free conditions.

UV-Light-Induced N-Acylation of Amines with α-Diketones

Zhihui Xu et al.

Summary: A mild method for N-acylation of primary and secondary amines with alpha-diketones induced by ultraviolet (UV) light was developed in this study. The system showed high yields of products with various functional groups at room temperature. Mechanistic studies revealed the in-situ generation of benzoin from benzil under UV irradiation.

Catalyst-free generation of acyl radicals induced by visible light in water to construct C-N bonds

Maogang Ran et al.

Summary: A catalyst-free and redox-neutral photochemical strategy was developed for the direct generation of acyl radicals from alpha-diketones, with selective conversion of nitrosoarenes to hydroxyamides or amides using AcOH or NaCl as additives. The reaction was conducted under mild conditions in water with purple LEDs as the light source, demonstrating a broad scope of substrates. Mechanistic experiments showed that alpha-diketones cleave to give acyl radicals, which could further be reduced to amides.
