Metalloradical Activation of In Situ-Generated α-Alkynyldiazomethanes for Asymmetric Radical Cyclopropanation of Alkenes

Jing Ke et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that alpha-alkynyldiazomethanes generated in situ from the corresponding sulfonyl hydrazones in the presence of a base can be used as effective metalloradicophiles in Co(II)-based metalloradical catalysis for asymmetric cyclopropanation reactions. By using a specific chiral ligand, the Co(II)-based metalloradical system can activate different alpha-alkynyldiazomethanes at room temperature, resulting in highly asymmetric cyclopropanation of a wide range of alkenes with high yields and enantioselectivity. Computational and experimental studies provided evidence for the stepwise radical mechanism involved in the Co(II)-catalyzed olefin cyclopropanation reaction, which is associated with a unique alpha-metalloradical intermediate. The resulting enantioenriched alkynyl cyclopropanes can serve as valuable chiral building blocks for stereoselective organic synthesis.

Visible-light-induced, autopromoted nickel-catalyzed three-component arylsulfonation of 1,3-enynes and mechanistic in-sights

Duo-Duo Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a light-induced, nickel-catalyzed three-component arylsulfonation of 1,3-enynes in the absence of a photocatalyst was reported. This method showed mild conditions, broad scope, and high efficiency. Mechanistic studies revealed the autopromotion of this light-induced nickel catalysis by in situ produced allene, which played a key role as a co-ligand in the photoactive excited state Ni(I) species for the LMCT process. The elucidation of this catalytic cycle may contribute to the development of new catalytic activities and novel methods.

Synthesis of Multisubstituted Allenes via Nickel-Catalyzed Cross-Electrophile Coupling

Youxiang Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, a cross-electrophile strategy was successfully applied to synthesize multisubstituted allenes. Nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling between propargyl carbonates and organoiodides provided a method to prepare tri- or tetrasubstituted allenes without the need for pregenerated organometallics. Furthermore, propargyl carbonates were found to be suitable allenylating agents in nickel-catalyzed asymmetric reductive aryl-allenylation, leading to the formation of chiral benzene-fused cyclic compounds with a quaternary allenyl-substituted stereogenic center in a highly enantioselective manner.
