Reduced gray matter brain volume and cortical thickness in adults with type 1 diabetes and neuropathy

Tine Maria Hansen et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers investigated brain morphology in adults with diabetic neuropathy. They found that adults with distal symmetric peripheral neuropathy had reduced total gray matter volume (GMV) compared to healthy controls. GMV loss was more pronounced in participants with painful neuropathy and those with proliferative retinopathy. The severity of neuropathy and decreased N-acetylaspartate/creatine metabolite concentration in the parietal region seemed to be related to GMV loss. Regional GMV loss was observed in the thalamus/putamen/caudate, occipital, and precentral regions, and decreased cortical thickness was found in frontal areas.

The Impact of Maternal Folates on Brain Development and Function after Birth

Sapna Virdi et al.

Summary: Folate plays a critical role in pregnancy and deficiency can lead to offspring neurodevelopmental defects. This review examines clinical and preclinical studies to explore the impact of folate deficiency on offspring neurodevelopment and brain function.

Fetal growth trajectory in type 1 pregestational diabetes (PGDM) - an ultrasound study

Lukasz Adamczak et al.

Summary: Growth disorders are common in diabetic pregnancies and may start to manifest as early as the second trimester in women with type 1 diabetes. Differences in LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and insulin requirements were observed among AGA, SGA, and LGA subgroups in the first trimester.
