Tunable Chemical Disorder in Concentrated Alloys: Defect Physics and Radiation Performance

Yanwen Zhang et al.

Summary: This review discusses the development of advanced structural alloys with improved performance by tuning chemical disorder. The synthesis of multicomponent concentrated solid-solution alloys has expanded the compositional space for new alloy discovery. The tunable electronic structure and atomic-level diversity in these alloys allow for control of energy dissipation and energy transport mechanisms, leading to enhanced alloy properties.

Chemical short-range ordering and its strengthening effect in refractory high-entropy alloys

S. D. Wang et al.

Summary: The presence of an appropriate degree of CSRO not only stabilizes the HEA lattice structure, but also enhances hardness, elastic modulus, and ideal strength. CSRO-induced strengthening is mainly attributed to local lattice distortion and d-electron transfer from high-energy to low-energy states under applied strains.
