LAMMPS-a flexible simulation tool for particle-based materials modeling at the atomic, meso, and continuum scales

Aidan P. Thompson et al.

Summary: LAMMPS, a classical molecular dynamics simulator released as an open source code in 2004, has gained popularity for its wide variety of particle interaction models, platform compatibility, and user control over simulation details. With contributions from numerous developers, it has grown from 50,000 lines of code to a million today, showcasing new capabilities like dynamic load balancing and quantum-accuracy machine learning interatomic potentials.

Deep machine learning potentials for multicomponent metallic melts: Development, predictability and compositional transferability

R. E. Ryltsev et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the use of machine learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) in materials simulations. Using the ternary Al-Cu-Ni metallic melts as an example, the authors construct a many-body deep machine learning potential that accurately describes both the atomic structure and dynamics of the system across the entire composition range. The developed MLIP demonstrates good compositional transferability.

Molecular dynamics study of the effect of extended ingrain defects on grain growth kinetics in nanocrystalline copper

Vladimir V. Dremov et al.

Summary: A large-scale classical molecular dynamics study explored the effect of ingrain defects on the grain growth rate of face centered cubic nanocrystalline material under thermal annealing. The results indicate that recrystallization occurs two times faster in samples with a high concentration of extended ingrain defects compared to defect-free samples.

Noble gas bubbles in bcc metals: Ab initio-based theory and kinetic Monte Carlo modeling

Chao Jiang et al.

Summary: Understanding the interactions of noble gases with metals is crucial for designing radiation-resistant structural materials for nuclear reactors. A unified theory has been proposed to describe the energetics of noble gas bubbles in various bcc metals, revealing the exceptional thermal stability of Ne, Ar, and Kr bubbles compared to He bubbles. The study provides new insights on the stability of fission gas bubble superlattice in bcc U-Mo and shows good agreement with existing thermal helium desorption spectrometry experiments.

On the theory of the mobility of faceted inclusions in crystals

M. S. Veshchunov

Summary: The proposed mechanism for the diffusion of faceted pores or solid inclusions by the nucleation of a critical terrace was critically analyzed and further developed in this study. A more accurate approach based on classical theory of critical nucleation applied to crystal surfaces was used. The new model was extended to analyze the migration of faceted inclusions under irradiation conditions, particularly in nanosized oxide particles in oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic/martensitic steels.

An atomistic study of defect energetics and diffusion with respect to composition and temperature in γU and γU-Mo alloys

Gyuchul Park et al.

Summary: This study investigated the properties of point defects in gamma U and gamma U-xMo alloys through molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that vacancy formation energy was higher than self-interstitial formation energy in the evaluated temperature range. In gamma U-xMo, vacancy formation energy decreased with increasing Mo content, while self-interstitial formation energy increased.
