Fifty years of amorphous silicon models: the end of the story?

Laurent J. Lewis

Summary: This review presents the significant progress achieved in modeling amorphous silicon (a-Si) by reflecting on the concept of continuous random network introduced by Zachariasen ninety years ago and Polk's hand-made model of a-Si fifty years ago. Despite the introduction of unprecedented quality models in recent years, the reconciliation with experimental evidence is still incomplete.
