Kruppel-like factor 7 attenuates hippocampal neuronal injury after traumatic brain injury

Wen-Yuan Li et al.

Summary: This study found that KLF7 can protect hippocampal neurons after traumatic brain injury by activating the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. In both HT22 cell model and mouse model, KLF7 reduced apoptosis, activated proteins, and increased the expression of antiapoptotic markers.

Genetic Deficiency of MicroRNA-15a/16-1 Confers Resistance to Neuropathological Damage and Cognitive Dysfunction in Experimental Vascular Cognitive Impairment and Dementia

Chao Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that knockout mice of miR-15a/16-1 exhibited fewer cognitive and sensorimotor deficits after VCID. The deficiency of miR-15a/16-1 also reduced myelin degeneration, axonal injury, and neuronal loss in VCID mice. The miR-15a/16-1-IL/10RA/AKT3 axis played a critical role in regulating vascular brain damage and cognitive decline after VCID. Targeting miR-15a/16-1 could be a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of VCID.

Interleukin-4 improves white matter integrity and functional recovery after murine traumatic brain injury via oligodendroglial PPARγ

Hongjian Pu et al.

Summary: IL-4 has been found to promote white matter integrity restoration and play a positive role in neurological recovery after TBI. However, IL-4 treatment did not reduce macroscopic brain lesions, but instead preserved white matter structure and function mainly through oligodendrogenesis.

Nitro-oleic acid-mediated blood-brain barrier protection reduces ischemic brain injury

Chao Zhou et al.

Summary: Nitro-oleic acid may serve as a therapeutic agent for ischemic brain injury by preserving BBB integrity, reducing brain infarct size, improving sensorimotor functions, and inhibiting inflammation and cell infiltration induced by ischemia.

KLF11 protects against abdominal aortic aneurysm through inhibition of endothelial cell dysfunction

Guizhen Zhao et al.

Summary: The study indicates that endothelial KLF11 plays an important role in maintaining vascular homeostasis, with its deficiency exacerbating AAA formation and overexpression inhibiting AAA occurrence. KLF11 not only inhibits endothelial cell inflammatory response, but also reduces the production of reactive oxygen species, exerting a protective effect against AAA.

Traumatic Brain Injury: Mechanistic Insight on Pathophysiology and Potential Therapeutic Targets

Komal Thapa et al.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury leads to brain damage through primary and secondary injury mechanisms, causing inflammatory activity, brain edema, and disruption of brain functions. Despite an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of TBI, further research is needed to assess the underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic agents.

Inhibition of TGFβ-activated kinase 1 promotes inflammation-resolving microglial/macrophage responses and recovery after stroke in ovariectomized female mice

Yaan Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the TAK1 inhibitor OZ significantly reduces neuronal cell death and axonal injury, as well as mitigates neuroinflammation in ovariectomized female mice after ischemic stroke. Through RNA sequencing analysis and specific TAK1 knockout, the role of TAK1 in determining proinflammatory microglial/macrophage responses post stroke has been confirmed.
