Density functional theory study on the decomposition mechanism of HFC-32 on a Cu(111) surface: The impact of H2O and O2

Mengna Bai et al.

Summary: This study employs density functional theory to investigate the impact of water and oxygen on the dissociation of HFC-32 on Cu(111) surfaces. The results indicate that the presence of oxygen atoms and water molecules enhances the interactions between HFC-32 and Cu(111) surface, promoting the dissociation reactions.

Thermal decomposition and interaction mechanism of HFC-227ea/n-hexane as a zeotropic working fluid for organic Rankine cycle

Erguang Huo et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the thermal decomposition and interaction mechanism of HFC-227ea/n-hexane zeotropic working fluid. The results show that the hydrogen bond formed between HFC-227ea and n-hexane improves the thermal stability of n-hexane but weakens the thermal stability of HFC-227ea.

Gasification of α-O-4 linkage lignin dimer in supercritical water into hydrogen and carbon monoxide: Reactive molecular dynamic simulation study

Zhiheng Song et al.

Summary: Gasification of lignin in supercritical water is an efficient and clean method for converting biomass into high value-added fuel. This study investigated the gasification mechanism of alpha-O-4 linkage lignin dimer in supercritical water using ReaxFF reactive molecular dynamic simulation. The results showed that the major products were H2 and CO, and the conversion of C5-C10 and other products to H2 and CO was promoted by H2O molecules.

Catalytic co-pyrolysis of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and lignin for jet fuel range hydrocarbons over activated carbon catalyst

Mengna Bai et al.

Summary: The catalytic conversion of LDPE and lignin over activated carbon into jet fuel range hydrocarbons was studied. The activated carbon exhibited excellent catalytic performance and the synergistic effect between high pyrolysis temperature and acid sites promoted the conversion of alkanes to aromatics. The presence of LDPE also enhanced the yield of jet fuel range hydrocarbons. This work provides an environmentally friendly, economical, convenient, simple, and effective route to obtain jet fuel range hydrocarbons from waste plastics and biomass.

Summary: Catalytic pyrolysis experiments on Kraft lignin showed that oxygen content can be significantly reduced and bio-oil quality improved with a mixture of catalysts. Catalytic upgrading under CO₂ environment increases the content of aldehyde/acidic or ketone functionality in bio-oil, while acidic functionality increases under N₂ environment.

Enhanced production of renewable aromatic hydrocarbons for jet-fuel from softwood biomass and plastic waste using hierarchical ZSM-5 modified with lignin-assisted re-assembly

Moriko Qian et al.

Summary: Biomass-derived materials have great potential as an alternative templating agent for tailoring new pore systems in zeolites to enhance catalyst properties. In this study, hierarchical ZSM-5 was prepared with the assistance of alkaline lignin and showed improved catalytic performance in co-pyrolysis of softwood biomass and LDPE mixture. The enlarged pore openings in hierarchical ZSM-5 facilitated the passage of reactive species and resulted in higher selectivity of desirable aromatic hydrocarbons and coke formation inhibition compared to parent zeolite.

Moriko Qian et al.

Summary: Biomass-mediated modification in zeolite synthesis shows potential in creating new porous structures and improved catalyst properties. This study prepared hierarchical ZSM-5 catalysts through desilication and lignin-mediated reassembly, modifying their physicochemical properties. The hierarchical structure with increased acidity directed by lignin addition demonstrated better product yields and reduced solid residue compared to microporous ZSM-5, enhancing the conversion of biomass and plastic feedstocks.
