Investigation of Wafer-Level Fabricated Permanent Micromagnets for MEMS

Mani Teja Bodduluri et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new technique called PowderMEMS, which uses atomic layer deposition (ALD) to agglomerate micron-sized powders and fabricate permanent micromagnets. The magnetic, thermal stability and corrosion stability of NdFeB micromagnets prepared using PowderMEMS are systematically investigated through a series of experiments. The results demonstrate the durability of PowderMEMS micromagnets and their potential applications in various fields.

Three-Degree-of-Freedom Electromagnetic Microactuator With Powder-Based Sm-Fe-N Magnets and Parylene Beams

Huayu Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a moving magnet type electromagnetic actuator with three-degree-of-freedom, capable of displacements in the XY axes and rotation around the Z axis. The motion of the center moving stage is controlled by the drive units, while compensation coils are used to eliminate the Lorentz force in the Z axis. Experimental results show that the center moving stage can achieve a displacement of 55 μm in the XY axes and rotation of nearly 3 degrees around the Z axis when a direct current is applied.

Model of Magnetic Particle Capture Under Physiological Flow Rates for Cytokine Removal During Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Olivia L. Lanier et al.

Summary: The study aimed to design a physical model of a magnetic filtration system for separating magnetic nanoparticle-tagged cytokines from fluid at flow rates relevant to cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. By solving Navier-Stokes equations and analyzing the magnetic field in COMSOL Multiphysics, the parameters affecting drag and magnetic forces were evaluated for their impact on MNP capture. The model achieved up to 100% efficiency in capturing particles in a single-pass of fluid flow at 1.75 L/min, showing potential for efficient removal of magnetically tagged cytokines in high-flow environments like CPB.

Performance Improvement of MEMS Electromagnetic Vibration Energy Harvester Using Optimized Patterns of Micromagnet Arrays

Kankana Paul et al.

Summary: This letter presents a potential solution to power wireless sensor networks for the Internet of Things by scavenging mechanical energy from ubiquitous vibrations through miniaturized electromagnetic transducers. Through systematic design study, the compact device topology yielded high EM coupling and improved half-power bandwidth. The designs can be implemented using standard MEMS fabrication methods for potential applications in the IoT.
