Dengue fever and dengue virus in People's Republic of China

Tiantian Wu et al.

Summary: Infection with dengue virus (DENV) can lead to a range of symptoms from dengue fever to severe dengue, causing a significant burden on global populations, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. The four serotypes of DENV have been identified in China, leading to frequent outbreaks in southern and coastal provinces. Despite the lack of antiviral drugs and approved vaccines, strategies such as public awareness and mosquito control have helped reduce the prevalence of dengue in China.

The COVID-19 epidemic and other notifiable infectious diseases in China

Bing-ke Bai et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 epidemic has had an impact on other infectious diseases in China, with a higher decline rate observed for respiratory infectious diseases compared to diseases transmitted through the digestive tract and animal-borne diseases. The measures implemented by the Chinese government to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 have proven effective not only in preventing the spread of respiratory infectious diseases, but also to some extent in preventing the spread of notifiable infectious diseases through other routes.
