Synthesis, Thermal, Optical, and Radiation-Absorbing Properties of Bi2O3-Li2O-As2O3-B2O3 Glasses

Birampally Kalyani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of different concentrations of Bi2O3 and Li2O on the physical, structural, optical, and radiation-absorbing properties of glasses. The results show that the addition of Bi2O3 increases the density and molar volume of the glasses, while decreasing the oxygen packing density. Furthermore, the addition of Bi2O3 has different effects on the ability of the glasses to shield gamma rays and fast neutrons. These findings demonstrate the significant potential of this glass for radiation-shielding applications.

Silicate glass system and significant role of Bi2O3 on radiation protection ability against gamma, neutron, and charged particle

Z. A. Alrowaili et al.

Summary: In the past three decades, the use of ionizing radiation and shielding materials has become more diverse. The use of glasses as shields in radiation facilities is gaining attention due to their attractive characteristics. In this study, the shielding ability of different glasses was examined for gamma-ray, neutron, and charged particles. The results showed that the shielding parameters were dependent on radiation energy and glass composition. Analysis also indicated that Bi2O3 enhanced the photon shielding ability of the glasses.

Structural and optical properties of BaTiO3 modified cadmium alkali borate glasses

K. Chandra Sekhar et al.

Summary: Borate glasses Na2B4O7-CdO-CuO-BaTiO3 have been synthesized using the traditional melt quenching method. The addition of BaTiO3 significantly affects the density and molar volume of the glass samples. Spectroscopic investigations reveal that the glass network consists of different structural units, including [BO3], [BO4], and [TiO4]. TiO2 plays a role in glass formation. The composition dependence of BaTiO3 influences the disorder of the glass structure and the optical band gap. EPR spectra indicate that Cu2+ ions occupy elongated octahedral positions with tetragonal distortions.

Synthesis, physical, optical and structural studies of B2O3-CdO-Al2O3-PbF2 glasses modified with MoO3 ions

S. Rajesham et al.

Summary: This manuscript discusses the preparation and detailed physical and structural study of B2O3-CdO-Al2O3-PbF2 glasses reinforced with MoO3 ions. The addition of MoO3 resulted in a decrease in density and band gap values, and an increase in refractive index, indicating the transformation of Mo6+ ions to Mo5+ ions and the formation of NBOs in the glasses. FTIR spectra revealed the presence of different borate and aluminate units, as well as the conversion of Mo6+ ions to Mo5+ ions. The Raman spectra showed the effect of MoO3 ions, indicating the conversion of BO4 to BO3 units and the increase in NBOs, providing an explanation for the density variation.
