Metal-free 2D/2D C3N5/GO nanosheets with customized energy-level structure for radioactive nuclear wastewater treatment

Qi Meng et al.

Summary: Researchers prepared metal-free 2D/2D C3N5/GO nanosheets and customized a type-II heterojunction based on band bending theory to enhance uranium extraction capacity. The structure of C3N5 was explained through electron energy loss spectroscopy and synchrotron-based X-ray absorption fine structure, showing a expanded light response range compared to C3N4. Density functional theory was used to demonstrate the presence of alternating energy levels for continuous injection of photogenerated electrons into the surface of GO, resulting in effective electron-hole pair separation and increased material activity. The 2D/2D C3N5/GO heterojunction achieved a high uranium removal ratio of 96.1% even at low concentration and 93.4% after gamma-ray exposure, laying a foundation for future customization of nonmetal-based 2D/2D nanohybrids for uranium-containing wastewater enrichment.

Thermal lens investigation of the Acid Blue 29 using dual beam z-scan technique

A. Ghanem et al.

Summary: The dual beam z-scan technique was used to investigate the thermal lens effect in Acid Blue 29 solution. The effect of solvents polarity on the thermal lens signal was studied by dissolving the Acid Blue 29 dye molecules in different solvents. It was found that the thermal lens signals were highest in the Acid Blue 29/methanol solution, and convection was observed at higher input pump powers when methanol and ethanol solvents were used.

Recent progress in research on multifunctional graphitic carbon nitride: An emerging wonder material beyond catalyst

Meenakshi Talukdar et al.

Summary: Advanced carbon-based materials with smart engineering and architecture are crucial in effective visible-light-induced applications as catalysts. Fluorescent carbon nitride, one of the oldest semiconductor materials, has been extensively modified to improve its performance and meet future requirements. The abundant and easy production of aromatic tri-s-triazine carbon nitride has shown interdisciplinary potential for versatile applications. Extensive efforts have been made to investigate and enhance its chemistry, beyond initial expectations. However, the low electronic conductivity, lack of absorption above 460 nm, and low surface area in bulk carbon nitride limit its pristine applications. The integration of different functionalities with pristine g-C3N4 has led to a deeper understanding of this material in a broader framework.
