Molecular structural, optical analyses, and dielectric properties of PVDF/PVA-MK composites

H. M. Alhusaiki-Alghamdi

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the structural, optical, and electrical properties of PVDF/PVA composites by adding pure metakaolin (MK). It was found that the addition of MK increased the amorphous structure and reduced the crystallinity of the composites. Spectral analysis showed changes in absorption coefficient, energy band gap, optical absorption coefficient, and extinction coefficient. The increase in extinction coefficient values indicated increased energy loss and interaction between light and medium molecules. The addition of MK also resulted in decreased band-gap values, demonstrating the suitability of MK as an optical material. Furthermore, the dielectric permittivity, AC conductivity, and dielectric modulus were studied in detail, showing an increase in these values with the addition of MK.

Enhanced high-temperature dielectric performances of polyetherimide-based composites via surface functionalized silicon carbide whiskers

Qiu-hao Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (AMEO)/polyurea (PUA)-modified silicon carbide whiskers (SiCw) were fabricated and incorporated into polyetherimide (PEI) for high temperature dielectric composites. Results show that the introduction of amino/urea polar groups effectively enhances the dielectric constant and suppresses the dielectric loss of the composites. The surface functionalization of SiCw greatly affects the dielectric properties, and the composites also exhibit high thermal conductivity. This study is of great importance for integrating dielectric, thermally conductive, and mechanical properties.

Enhanced dielectric and piezoelectric properties in potassium sodium niobate/polyvinylidene fluoride composites using nano-silicon carbide as an additive

Vajihe Amoozegar et al.

Summary: The research focused on fabricating ternary composites of PVDF/KNN/SiC and studying the effects of additives on the electrical properties. SiC addition altered the primary crystalline structure of PVDF, significantly enhancing the piezoelectric properties. However, excessive SiC content could reduce the material's performance.

PVDF composites filled with core-shell fillers of Si@SiO2, Si@SiO2@PS: effects of multiple shells on dielectric properties and thermal conductivity

Xu Li et al.

Summary: The study shows that the SiO2 interlayer between Si and PVDF matrix significantly reduces losses and leakage conductivity, while the PS shell encapsulating Si@SiO2 further inhibits losses and conductivity. The organic PS interlayer enhances interfacial compatibility and promotes the fillers' dispersion in PVDF, improving the E-b of the composites.

Metal-organic frameworks as proton conductors: strategies for improved proton conductivity

Kumar Biradha et al.

Summary: Recent studies on proton conductivity using pristine MOFs and their composite materials have shown potential for high performance solid state proton conductors and proton exchange membranes in fuel cells. MOFs provide a large number of degrees of freedom in framework composition, coordination environment, and chemically functionalized pores for the targeted design of improved proton carriers functioning over a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions. This review aims to direct readers' attention towards design strategies and structure-property relationship for proton transport in MOFs.
