Magnetic properties and microstructural characterization of cold-rolled and annealed 317L austenitic stainless steel

M. J. R. Sandim et al.

Summary: The annealing behavior of cold-rolled 317L austenitic stainless steel was investigated, revealing the occurrence of austenite reversion, decrease of delta ferrite, and massive sigma phase precipitation within certain temperature and time intervals. At 800 degrees C, the steel is almost fully recrystallized, except for the eye-shaped structures which have less intense precipitation internally. Precipitation of sigma phase preferentially occurs at the delta ferrite lamellae.

Optimization of nano HA-SiC coating on AISI 316L medical grade stainless steel via electrophoretic deposition

M. R. Hosseini et al.

Summary: Biocompatible nanostructured coating plays a crucial role in improving the osseointegration ability of metallic implants. This study focused on optimizing the SiC concentration in Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on AISI 316L stainless steel alloy. Results showed that SiC effectively hindered the formation and growth of micro cracks in the HA coating, leading to enhanced corrosion resistance and elastic modulus of the coatings.

Summary: In this study, a polyvinyl alcohol reinforced natural chitosan/bioactive glass composite coating was prepared on 316L stainless steel by electrophoretic deposition process. The 25% PVA concentration in the composite coating showed increased corrosion resistance and bio-stability compared to 15% and 20% PVA concentrations, with better bioactivity and hydroxyapatite forming ability in vitro observed with 20% PVA concentration.

Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of 316 austenitic stainless steel by CGP

Rahul Singh et al.

Summary: Constrained groove pressing (CGP) was used to deform 316 austenitic stainless steel in this study. X-ray diffraction and electron backscattered diffraction were employed to characterize the processed samples, confirming the transformation of the austenitic phase into the martensitic phase. The increase in strength, decrease in ductility, and changes in crystallite size, microstrain, and dislocation density after CGP were observed in the analysis.

K. C. Nnakwo et al.

Summary: The study experimentally investigated the grain characteristics, electrical conductivity, hardness, and bulk density of Cu-3Si-(0.1-1 wt%)Zn alloys system fabricated by gravity casting technique. The addition of 0.1 wt% zinc led to changes in grain characteristics, resulting in decreased electrical conductivity but increased hardness and density. Optimization revealed Cu-3Si-0.233Zn as the optimal alloy composition with optimal properties for electrical and automobile components.

Summary: The study found that machining parameters have a significant impact on the surface of stainless steel, with feed rate and depth of cut being key factors, and polishing alone is not sufficient to ensure surface quality. Softer machining parameters can increase the lifespan of implant components and reduce the likelihood of localized corrosion.
