Graphene nanosheets homogeneously incorporated in polyurethane sponge for the elimination of water-soluble organic dyes

Shoichi Manabe et al.

Summary: Highly dispersed graphene nanosheets were integrated into polyurethane sponge for the first time, showing excellent organic dye absorption properties. The adsorption process was spontaneous, exothermic, and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with a high rate of adsorption. pH-dependent study revealed different adsorption behaviors for cationic and anionic dyes. Overall, the new adsorbent is highly suitable for practical applications.

Simple in situ functionalization of carbon nanospheres

Gerardo Patino-Guillen et al.

Summary: Functionalized carbon nanospheres were synthesized in situ through a chemical vapor deposition strategy using toluene/ethanol mixtures, with the best functionalization achieved at 3 wt% ethanol concentration. The added functional groups enhanced the dispersibility and stability of the carbon nanostructures in water, making them potentially useful in biomedical applications requiring hydrophilic nanomaterials.

Carbon Nanotubes and Polydopamine Modified Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Sponges for Efficient Oil-Water Separation

Wen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates effective separation of oil from both immiscible oil-water mixtures and oil-in-water emulsions using PDMS-based composite sponges. The introduction of CNTs enhances the properties of the composite sponge, while the development of PDA/CNT-PDMS material further improves the efficient separation of O/W emulsions.

Highly Graphitized Fe-N-C Electrocatalysts Prepared from Chitosan Hydrogel Frameworks

Giorgia Daniel et al.

Summary: The development of PGM-free electrocatalysts derived from inexpensive and environmentally friendly biomasses for ORR has attracted significant interest. Fe-N-C materials have emerged as a promising alternative to Pt-based materials, exhibiting high activity and selectivity. The use of chitosan as a nitrogen-containing biomass for Fe-N-C catalyst preparation, followed by thermochemical conversion, offers a highly graphitized material with optimal mesoporosity and enhanced catalytic activity. RRDE technique was utilized to assess the material's performance, demonstrating a linear correlation between catalytic activity and Fe-N-x active sites.

Potential Use of Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanotube Sponges as Payload Carriers Against Malignant Glioma

Aleli Salazar et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube sponges (N-CNSs) are a new type of nanomaterial with high biocompatibility that can load large amounts of hydrophobic drugs, making them suitable carriers for chemotherapeutic agents. The study showed that N-CNSs can continuously release carmustine without inducing cytotoxicity, making them promising candidates for targeted drug delivery in malignant gliomas.
