Influence of extrusion conditions on microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-2Gd-0.3Zr magnesium alloy

Tianshuo Zhao et al.

Summary: Different extrusion conditions can affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys. Increasing extrusion speed and annealing time can accelerate the growth of recrystallized grains and increase elongation. Large pre-forging deformation can refine the grains and increase the strength of the alloy. Decreasing extrusion ratio or increasing cooling rate will introduce coarse un-DRXed grains and transform the texture. Rapid cooling also has an obvious effect on refining recrystallized grains.

Combined-extrusion techniques for fabricating yield-symmetric ZK61 magnesium alloys rods focusing on texture influence on their mechanical responses

X. M. Chen et al.

Summary: Three combined extrusion techniques were used to fabricate three typical {0002} basal textures in fine-grained ZK61 magnesium alloy, and their influence on tension-compression asymmetry was evaluated. The study showed that basal texture dispersion decreased tension-compression asymmetry and achieved high-strength symmetrical ZK61 magnesium alloy successfully.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of AZ31 magnesium alloy reinforced with novel sub-micron vanadium particles by powder metallurgy

Shuai Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel fine-grained AZ31 magnesium (Mg) alloy reinforced with sub-micron vanadium particles (V-P) was successfully prepared by powder metallurgy. The composite exhibited competitive mechanical properties with improved microhardness, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and elongation. The strengthening mechanisms of grain boundary strengthening, thermal mismatch, Orowan strengthening, and load transfer contributed to the improvement of strength, while the fracture mechanism included both ductile and brittle modes.

Effect of subgrain and the associated DRX behaviour on the texture modification of Mg-6.63Zn-0.56Zr alloy during hot tensile deformation

Jingyuan Shen et al.

Summary: The study found that the influence of DRXed grains, subgrains and deformed grains on the basal texture of Mg-Zn-Zr alloy during hot tensile deformation is determined by a compromise between the randomized texture of DRXed grains and the preferred texture of subgrains and deformed grains.
