Fast and stable hydrogen storage in the porous composite of MgH2 with Nb2O5 catalyst and carbon nanotube

Kosuke Kajiwara et al.

Summary: The MgH2-Nb2O5-carbon nanotube (CNT) composite was fabricated to accommodate volume changes during hydrogen storage cycles, leading to more stable hydrogen sorption properties. The addition of CNT resulted in greater cyclic stability compared to expanded graphite, possibly due to the higher C/Mg ratio on the surface of the MgH2-Nb2O5-CNT powder.

Synthesis of low-cost biomass charcoal-based Ni nanocatalyst and evaluation of their kinetic enhancement of MgH2

Quanhui Hou et al.

Summary: In this study, a low-cost biomass charcoal (BC)-based nickel catalyst (Ni/BC) was introduced into the MgH2 system by ball-milling, which significantly improved the hydrogen desorption and absorption kinetics of MgH2. The Ni/BC catalyst enhanced the release of hydrogen at lower temperatures and achieved a high proportion of dehydrogenation within a short time. Moreover, it enabled hydrogen absorption at low temperatures and rapid absorption under specific conditions. The catalyst reduced the activation energy and improved the cycle stability of MgH2.

Effect of adding different percentages of HfCl4 on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH2

M. Ismail

Summary: Magnesium hydride (MgH2) is a promising material for solid-state hydrogen storage due to its reversible nature and high storage capacity. However, slow kinetics and high stability have hindered its commercialization. By adding hafnium tetrachloride (HfCl4) as a catalyst, the desorption kinetics and thermodynamics of MgH2 can be improved, with the optimal enhancement observed at 15 wt% HfCl4 doping.

Enhanced hydrogen-storage properties of MgH2 by Fe-Ni catalyst modified three-dimensional graphene

Dongmei Zhou et al.

Summary: The addition of Fe-Ni catalyst modified three-dimensional graphene to MgH2 optimized the hydrogen storage performance, achieving fast hydrogen absorption and release rates, as well as excellent cycle stability. These improvements are mainly attributed to the synergistic effects of the two catalyst materials, effectively enhancing the kinetic performance of the dehydrogenation process.

Improvement of Mg-Based Hydrogen Storage Materials by Metal Catalysts: Review and Summary

Xinglin Yang et al.

Summary: Magnesium hydride (MgH2) is a promising hydrogen storage material, but its high thermodynamic stability and slow kinetic performance limit its practical applications. Methods such as metal catalyst doping and nanocrystallization have been shown to greatly improve the hydrogen absorption and dehydrogenation performance of MgH2.
