Effects of carbon implantation on the low temperature magnetism behavior in amorphous Fe93Zr7 films

M. Alouhmy et al.

Summary: We conducted a detailed investigation on the effects of C-implantation on low temperature magnetic behavior in Fe93Zr7 amorphous films. The results showed that C-implantation led to a significant increase in Curie temperature and a decrease in coercivity. The temperature dependence of magnetization was analyzed and important parameters were extracted, revealing a decrease in local random anisotropy constant and an increase in ferromagnetic correlation length with increasing carbon content. The local anisotropy was also extracted from coercivity, showing reasonable agreement with the random magnetic anisotropy approach.

Random magnetic anisotropy approach in amorphous Fe88.4Zr11.6 films: Effects of hydrogen implantation

M. Alouhmy et al.

Summary: The effects of hydrogen implantation on the magnetic properties of amorphous Fe88.4Zr11.6Hx films were studied, showing that the Curie temperature increases and coercivity decreases with increasing hydrogen content. The local random anisotropy constant decreases with higher hydrogen concentration, and the ferromagnetic correlation length increases significantly. The local anisotropy extracted from coercivity fits well with the results obtained using random magnetic anisotropy approach.

Faceting-roughening transition of a Cu grain boundary under electron-beam irradiation at 300 keV

Sung Bo Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural evolution of the grain boundary in a Cu bicrystal at room temperature under beam-irradiation using a C-s-corrected, monochromated transmission electron microscope. The faceting of the grain boundary was observed at low current density but became defaceted at higher current density, with the transition being reversible upon decreasing the current density. The structural transition is attributed to inelastic scattering effects by electron-beam irradiation.

Toward a systematic discovery of artificial functional magnetic materials

Lukas Botsch et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a trend towards developing ferromagnetic materials by introducing defects into nonmagnetic host materials. However, the controversy remains regarding whether these materials are technologically relevant ferromagnets. Research on the emergence of a ferromagnetic phase upon ion irradiation shows that a bulk magnetic phase emerges in the high-energy regime, while an ultrathin magnetic layer forms at low ion energies.
