Porosity evolution during heating of copper made from powder by friction extrusion

Xiaolong Ma et al.

Summary: Friction extrusion was used to compact and extrude solid copper rods from feedstock powders, resulting in noticeable porosity in the extrudate. The thermal stability of the extrudate was studied through heat treatments, revealing three stages of porosity evolution and the factors driving this evolution, such as internal pore pressure, material strength, and sintering kinetics, related to temperature changes. This research has implications for microstructure thermal stability in advanced manufacturing methods beyond copper.

The effect of the ECAP process on the copper micro gears produced by the forward micro-extrusion process

Saman Khalilpourazary

Summary: Equal channel angular pressing was utilized to enhance the mechanical properties of pure copper initial billets for micro gear manufacturing. Microhardness in micro gears was found to be higher when using ECAPed copper compared to annealed samples. The microstructure differences within the micro gears were determined by the location and initial microstructure of the billets used in the micro-extrusion process.
