Increase in root density induced by coronatine improves maize drought resistance in North China

Yuling Guo et al.

Summary: Drought stress caused by insufficient irrigation or precipitation impairs agricultural production worldwide. In this study, the effect of coronatine (COR) on maize drought resistance was investigated. The results showed that spraying 1 μmol/L COR at the seedling stage increased root density and size, thereby enhancing the drought tolerance of maize.

The plasma membrane aquaporin ZmPIP2;5 enhances the sensitivity of stomatal closure to water deficit

Lei Ding et al.

Summary: research shows that the maize plasma membrane PIP2;5 aquaporin plays a significant role in regulating stomatal closure and plant transpiration. Overexpression of PIP2;5 leads to faster stomatal closure under water deficit conditions, while knocking down PIP2;5 gene expression results in reduced sensitivity of stomatal closure to abscisic acid.
