The Heterogonic Life Cycles of Oak Gall Wasps Need to Be Closed: A Lesson From Two Species of Dryophanta (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipini)

Tatsuya Ide et al.

Summary: This study compared gall wasp specimens to confirm that Dryophanta japonica and Dryophanta mitsukurii are actually the asexual and sexual generations of the same heterogonic species. It also clarified the relationship of other species previously suggested to be synonymous with them. The results not only help avoid taxonomic confusion but also contribute to the advancement of gall wasp biology.
