Polydopamine functionalized superhydrophilic coconut shells biomass carbon for selective cationic dye methylene blue adsorption

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: Environmentally friendly, highly efficient, and selective adsorbents are in demand for wastewater treatment. In this study, coconut shell was chemically activated with NaOH, pyrolyzed, and then surface modified with polydopamine (PDA). The resulting CS-NaOH@PDA composites exhibited high adsorption efficiency and selectivity for dyes in aqueous solution, and could effectively remove cationic dyes. The adsorbents also showed a high uptake capacity for methylene blue (MB) at pH 12. The introduction of nitrogen-containing or oxygen-containing functional groups enhanced the adsorption efficiency. Overall, this low-cost and environmentally friendly adsorbent has promising potential for wastewater treatment applications.

Review of the Effect of Surface Coating Modification on Magnesium Alloy Biocompatibility

Xuan Guo et al.

Summary: Magnesium alloy has witnessed significant development in the field of biomaterials due to its excellent biocompatibility and biomechanics. However, its poor corrosion resistance in physiological environments poses challenges for clinical use. This study explores two main approaches to improve the corrosion resistance: alloying elements addition and surface coating modification. Surface coating modification is preferred as it avoids introducing new elements and offers simpler physical, chemical, or electrochemical improvements. The research summarizes and discusses the application and characteristics of six different surface coating modifications in the biomedical magnesium alloy field while highlighting the potential of combining modified coatings with various post-treatment technologies to enhance biocompatibility and achieve clinical functionalization.
