Adequacy of blood pressure control in high-risk hypertensive patients: The DEGREE study

Victor J. M. Zeijen et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the prevalence of high-risk hypertensive patients who do not meet guideline-recommended blood pressure targets despite routine therapy. The findings showed that 40-60% of high-risk hypertensive patients had uncontrolled blood pressure despite receiving guideline-recommended treatment. Therefore, there is a need to explore novel invasive blood pressure lowering treatment options.

Predictors of blood pressure response to ultrasound renal denervation in the RADIANCE-HTN SOLO study

Manish Saxena et al.

Summary: This post-hoc analysis of the RADIANCE-HTN SOLO study found that predictors of response to renal denervation (RDN) included higher baseline daytime ambulatory diastolic blood pressure and use of antihypertensive medications, with orthostatic hypertension potentially predicting response. Obese females also appeared to have a better response to RDN in an interaction model.

Assessment of arterial stiffness to predict blood pressure response to renal sympathetic denervation

Karl Fengler et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the ability of invasive and non-invasive methods to predict the response of blood pressure to renal sympathetic denervation (RDN). The results showed that iPWV is an independent predictor for blood pressure response after RDN, and non-invasive methods can also predict blood pressure changes.

Impact of renal sympathetic denervation on cardiac magnetic resonance-derived cardiac indices in hypertensive patients - A meta-analysis

George Bazoukis et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis of nine studies showed that patients undergoing renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) had significantly lower left ventricular volumes and higher ejection fraction compared to the control group. However, further large, randomized studies are needed to elucidate the role of RDN in cardiac remodeling in hypertension, heart failure, and other clinical settings.

Ultrasound renal denervation for hypertension resistant to a triple medication pill (RADIANCE-HTN TRIO): a randomised, multicentre, single-blind, sham-controlled trial

Michel Azizi et al.

Summary: Renal denervation through ultrasound treatment shows promising results in reducing blood pressure for patients with resistant hypertension, with greater effectiveness compared to a sham procedure within 2 months and similar safety outcomes. This may provide an alternative approach for patients with resistant hypertension to avoid adding more antihypertensive medications.

Normal and reference values for cardiovascular magnetic resonance-based pulse wave velocity in the middle-aged general population

Max J. van Hout et al.

Summary: This study provides normal and reference values for CMR-assessed PWV per sex, age and blood pressure category in the general population. The results show that PWV increases with advancing age and blood pressure categories, with women having higher PWV in high blood pressure situations.
