The Acute Effect of Exercise on Arterial Stiffness in Healthy Subjects: A Meta-Analysis

Alicia Saz-Lara et al.

Summary: Exercise has an acute effect on arterial stiffness in healthy adults, with a significant reduction in pulse wave velocity 30 minutes after exercise. However, arterial stiffness returns to baseline levels 24 hours after exercise, suggesting that daily exercise may be needed to achieve long-term improvements.

Pressure-Corrected Carotid Stiffness and Young's Modulus: Evaluation in an Outpatient Clinic Setting

M. van der Bruggen et al.

Summary: New pressure-independent carotid stiffness measures were proposed in this study to avoid the need for statistical correction, and found to be unrelated to changes in mean arterial pressure after a 2.9-year follow-up. In contrast, conventional stiffness measures showed significant association with changes in mean arterial pressure. Additional adjustments for biomechanical confounders and traditional risk factors did not change these associations.

Prolonged Elevation of Arterial Stiffness Following Peak Aerobic Exercise in Individuals With Chronic Stroke

Kenneth S. Noguchi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the recovery of arterial stiffness, heart rate, and blood pressure following peak intensity aerobic exercise in individuals with chronic stroke. Results showed that cfPWV remained elevated for 20 minutes after exercise, independent of heart rate. Heart rate remained elevated for 10 minutes post-exercise, and finger systolic blood pressure was reduced for 15 minutes after exercise.
