Shivering in the Pleistocene. Human adaptations to cold exposure in Western Europe from MIS 14 to MIS 11

Jesus Rodriguez et al.

Summary: The study found that during the Middle Pleistocene, humans in Western Europe not only faced low temperatures during glacial stages but also during interglacial periods. Physiological and behavioral adaptations alone may not have been sufficient to withstand the cold temperatures, suggesting the importance of combining anatomical and physiological adaptations with behavioral responses.
