Effect of various aqueous extracting agents on fluorescence properties of waste tea residue derived carbon dots (WTR-CDs): Comparative spectroscopic analysis

Umesh S. Mote et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of different aqueous extracting agents on the fluorescence properties of waste tea residue-based carbon dots (WTR-CDs) was investigated. The role of various aqueous media during the synthesis of WTR-CDs from carbonized carbon powder was examined, and the consequences of different extracting agents on the photophysical properties of the final WTR-CDs were discussed in detail. Interesting blue shift fluorescence spectra were observed in acidic medium and polar protic solvents, and the effect of cationic, anionic, and non-anionic surfactants on the fluorescence of WTR-CDs was evaluated. These findings have important implications for the future synthesis of carbon dots from various biomass-based precursors under different aqueous conditions.

Photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline in aqueous systems under visible light irridiation using needle-like SnO2 nanoparticles anchored on exfoliated g-C3N4

Adewumi Olufemi Oluwole et al.

Summary: In this study, needle-like SnO2/g-C3N4 nanocomposites were synthesized and showed efficient decomposition of tetracycline under visible light irradiation. The heterojunction between SnO2 nanoparticles and exfoliated g-C3N4 nanosheets promoted the separation of charge carriers, leading to enhanced degradation of tetracycline. This nanocomposite material has potential applications for the degradation of pharmaceuticals with similar chemical structures.

A feasible biochar derived from biogas residue and its application in the efficient adsorption of tetracycline from an aqueous solution

Xiaoyu Sheng et al.

Summary: The introduction of citric acid as a modification reagent for biogas residue biochar (CABRC) significantly enhanced its adsorption capacity for TC compared to the unmodified biogas residue biochar (BRC). CABRC exhibited a higher specific surface area and had a 2.8 times higher TC adsorption performance than BRC. The TC adsorption of both BRC and CABRC was primarily controlled by physical and chemical adsorption mechanisms, making CABRC a promising material for wastewater treatment.

Carbon Dots and Eu3+Hybrid-Based Ratiometric Fluorescent Probe for Oxytetracycline Detection

Qin Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a ratiometric fluorescence probe consisting of blue-fluorescent carbon dots and Eu3+ was developed for sensitive and selective detection of oxytetracycline (OTC). The probe exhibited a color change from blue to pink fluorescence upon the addition of OTC due to the aggregation of Eu3+ and the inner filter effect between OTC and carbon dots. It showed high selectivity for OTC and a satisfactory detection performance in environmental water samples.

Efficient degradation of tetracycline by singlet oxygen-dominated peroxymonosulfate activation with magnetic nitrogen-doped porous carbon

Shaohua Wu et al.

Summary: The study thoroughly examined the degradation of tetracycline (TC) in the constructed Co-N/C-PMS system, finding that the removal rate of TC reached 85.4% when Co-N/C and PMS were added simultaneously, with a higher degradation rate compared to using Co-N/C or PMS alone. The system was identified as a singlet oxygen-dominated nonradical reaction, providing a promising approach for eliminating TC in water treatment.
