Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great potential in various applications, with aluminum MOFs (Al-MOFs) in particular demonstrating unprecedented stability in water. The study synthesized a hygroscopic Al-MOF MIL-160(Al) and used in-situ time-dependent ATR-FTIR spectroscopy to detect water binding sites, revealing the sorption mechanism and kinetics of water vapor on MIL-160(Al). The combination of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and gravimetric analysis provided a powerful experimental approach for studying solid-gas reactions under ambient and controlled conditions.

Facile synthesis of hierarchically structured MIL-53(Al) with superior properties using an environmentally-friendly ultrasonic method for separating lead ions from aqueous solutions

Summary: This study successfully synthesized MIL-53(Al) adsorbents through sonochemical-assisted synthesis and investigated their application in removing lead ions from aqueous solutions. The results showed that sonochemical-assisted synthesis could significantly reduce the synthesis time and increase the specific surface area of the adsorbents, thereby improving the mass transfer limitation in ion adsorption. The optimal conditions for lead ion removal were determined, and the applicability of adsorption equilibrium and kinetic models were verified. Furthermore, this study demonstrated the great potential of sonochemically synthesized MIL-53(Al) as an environmentally-friendly adsorbent for lead ion removal.
