Copper-based Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite oxides activated hydrogen peroxide for coal pyrolysis wastewater (CPW) degradation: Performance and mechanism

Jinxin Li et al.

Summary: Coal pyrolysis wastewater (CPW) contains toxic and harmful components that pose a serious threat to the environment and human health. Traditional advanced oxidation processes struggle to remove phenolic substances. This study successfully synthesized a perovskite material (La2CuO4) through a sol-gel process and found it effective in removing a significant amount of 3, 5-dimethylphenol (DMP) from CPW. The material also exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability in the treatment process.

Activation of molecular oxygen over Mn-doped La2CuO4 perovskite for direct epoxidation of propylene

Xinxin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of Mn-doped La2CuO4 perovskite catalysts with adjustable electronic structure were prepared to explore the effects of catalyst intrinsic electronic structure evolution on molecular oxygen activation. The results showed that LaMn0.5Cu0.5O3 catalyst exhibited the best propylene oxide selectivity at 150 degrees C. Characterization and DFT calculations revealed that the excellent catalytic performance of LaMn0.5Cu0.5O3 could be attributed to the change of molecular oxygen activation sites from oxygen vacancy active sites on La2CuO4 to Cu active sites on LaMn0.5Cu0.5O3, and the synergistic interaction between manganese and copper that affected the electron density on Cu sites and modulated the activated states of surface adsorbed oxygen species. Crystal band theory was also employed to associate the oxygen vacancy density with the Cu valence state.

Short-Range Diffusion Enables General Synthesis of Medium-Entropy Alloy Aerogels

Guanghui Han et al.

Summary: A general strategy for preparing ultralight 3D porous medium-entropy alloy aerogels (MEAAs) has been reported, which overcomes the immiscible behavior of different metals to achieve single-phase MEAAs. The as-synthesized MEAAs show high catalytic activity and selectivity in methanol oxidation reactions. Additionally, a MEAAs-based water electrolyzer demonstrates low cell voltage for value-added formate production.

Fe3O4-CuO@Lignite activated coke activated persulfate advanced treatment of phenolic wastewater from coal chemical industry

Wencheng Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, lignite activated coke (LAC) was used as the carrier and Fe3O4-CuO composite metal oxide was used as the main active material to synthesize the nano-scale magnetic supported composite metal oxide Fe3O4-CuO@LAC catalyst, which effectively activates the active oxygen in peroxodisulfate (PS). The optimized experimental conditions showed a high removal rate of hydroquinone using the catalyst. The possible degradation pathway of hydroquinone was also deduced, providing a foundation for solving the problem of difficult treatment of phenol-containing wastewater in coal chemical industry.

Oxygen vacancy concentration modulation of perovskite-based heterogeneous catalysts for Fenton-like oxidation of tetracycline

Jinxin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between surface oxygen vacancy concentration and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for pollutants treatment. Perovskite samples with different surface oxygen vacancy concentrations were prepared and Ca0.9FeO3-delta exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability for tetracycline degradation. The hydroxyl radical (center dot OH) was identified as the main active species for the catalytic degradation. Toxicological simulation showed a decreasing trend in the toxicity of degradation by-products. This work provides a new strategy for designing efficient catalysts for environmental remediation.

Heterogeneous Fenton-like degradation of organic pollutants in petroleum refinery wastewater by copper-type layered double hydroxides

Ghania Radji et al.

Summary: A series of Ni(2-x)Cu(x)Al-LDH layered ternary double hydroxides were synthesized and used as catalysts for the degradation of organic compounds in petroleum refinery wastewaters. The catalytic activity depended on the Ni2+/Cu2+ ratio, with maximum activity observed at x=2.0. The oxidation process involved the adsorption of hydrogen peroxide on the catalyst surface, electron transfer from Cu+ ions to produce Cu2+, and reaction with organic compounds to form intermediates, organic acids, and alkanes.

Preparation of Supported Perovskite Catalyst to Purify Membrane Concentrate of Coal Chemical Wastewater in UV-Catalytic Wet Hydrogen Peroxide Oxidation System

Wenwen Zhang et al.

Summary: A supported perovskite catalyst was prepared and investigated for the purification of concentrated liquid of coal chemical wastewater in a UV-CWPO system. The catalyst prepared with CeO2 support, calcination temperature of 800 degrees C, and 8 hours calcination time showed the best catalytic effect. Under optimal conditions, the oxidized effluent changed from high toxicity to non-toxicity, and the biodegradability of the effluent was greatly improved.

Internal OH- induced cascade quenching of upconversion luminescence in NaYF4:Yb/Er nanocrystals

Yansong Feng et al.

Summary: Internal hydroxyl impurities have been identified as detrimental factors affecting the upconversion efficiency of upconversion luminescence nanomaterials. By quantifying and adjusting the internal hydroxyl impurity in NaYF4 nanocrystals, researchers have unraveled the microscopic interactions underlying UCL quenching and proposed a concept of Survivor effect to explain the UC dynamical process involving internal hydroxyl. The new quantitative insights obtained from this study are expected to promote the development of highly efficient UC materials.

Insights of emerging contaminants removal in real water matrices by CWPO using a magnetic catalyst

Y. Huaccallo-Aguilar et al.

Summary: The study focused on the application of CWPO with a synthesized magnetic catalyst for the treatment of real water matrices spiked with pharmaceutical compounds. pH, NAP and DCF concentrations were found to be crucial factors in pollutants removal. The lab-prepared catalyst showed high removal rates for NAP and DCF at specific conditions. The study demonstrated that CWPO with the magnetic catalyst is an efficient method to remove DCF-NAP mixtures from real aqueous matrices, with reduced aromaticity and toxicity in the effluents.
