Main-chain donor-acceptor polyhydrazone mediated adsorption of an anionic dye from contaminated water

Hany F. Nour et al.

Summary: A versatile synthetic approach was used to synthesize a polyviologen polymer with alternating pi-electron rich naphthyl and pi-electron deficient bipyridinium moieties. The polymer showed efficient adsorption of dye RO122 with high uptake efficiency, primarily through electrostatic attractions between the polymer groups and dye molecules. Adsorption isotherms revealed a physisorption dominated process with a mean free energy of adsorption of 2.04 kJ/mol.

Imidazolium-Functionalized Chemically Robust Ionic Porous Organic Polymers (iPOPs) toward Toxic Oxo-Pollutants Capture from Water

Arunabha Sen et al.

Summary: Two new highly stable imidazolium based ionic porous organic polymers (iPOPs) were reported for efficient removal of toxic heavy metal based oxo-anions from water, exhibiting rapid sieving kinetics and very high saturation uptake capacity for CrO42- and ReO4-. Theoretical binding energy calculations via DFT method confirmed the preferential interaction sites and binding energies of iPOPs towards these oxo-anions, validating the experimental high capacity and selectivity of iPOPs.

Rational design of a cationic polymer network towards record high uptake of 99TcO4- in nuclear waste

Jie Li et al.

Summary: Tc-99 is a long-lived radionuclide present in large amounts in used nuclear fuel. Designing anion-exchange materials with optimized Tc uptake property is a research goal beneficial for reducing the volume of secondary radioactive solid waste. However, challenges exist in the design philosophy with difficulties such as charge repulsion, steric hindrance, and insufficient reactive sites.
