A comparison of Ni-Co layered double oxides with memory effect on recovering U(VI) from wastewater to hydroxides

Xiuling Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, a material with excellent adsorption capacity, Ni-Co LDO-500, was successfully synthesized by calcining nickel-cobalt layered double hydroxide. It was found to be highly efficient in extracting U(VI) from wastewater. Ni-Co LDO-500 exhibited excellent regeneration ability and showed promise in the decontamination of uranium in actual uranium-containing wastewater.

Highly efficient metal-organic frameworks adsorbent for Pd(II) and Au(III) recovery from solutions: Experiment and mechanism

Jiali Tang et al.

Summary: With the increasing demand for precious metals such as palladium (Pd) and gold (Au) in modern industry, the discharge of Pd(II) and Au(III) wastewater has caused environmental pollution and resource shortage. In this study, a new metal-organic frameworks adsorbent (MOF-AFH) was synthesized to efficiently separate Pd(II) and Au(III) from water. The experimental results demonstrate that MOF-AFH has excellent selectivity and can be repeatedly used with a removal effect of over 90%.

Water-based Fe3O4 magnetic fluid-coated Aspergillus niger spores for treating liquid contaminated with Cr(VI)

Binqiao Ren et al.

Summary: The use of superparamagnetic biosorbent materials for heavy metals remediation has gained attention due to their ease of separation and reusability. In this study, water-based magnetic fluid-spores (WMFSs) were prepared and compared with a magnetic composite material. The results showed that WMFS3 exhibited higher adsorption efficiency and separation effect compared to the control. The morphology and structure of WMFS3 were characterized, and its adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm. The adsorption mechanisms of WMFS3 for Cr(VI) included electrostatic, reduction, and complexation adsorption. The findings suggest that this biosorbent material has promising applications in wastewater treatment.

Chao Ren et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of F- adsorption by calcined LDHs (CLDH) using various analytical techniques. The results showed that calcination greatly enhanced the F- affinity of LDH, especially at high pH. The study also revealed the irreversible changes in LDH structure caused by calcination and the decrease in crystallinity with increasing calcination temperature.

Summary: This study utilized F-19 solid-state NMR spectroscopy to investigate fluoride sorption products on 2:1 MgAl LDHs and their relationship with the LDH structure. The results showed that Al-F is the predominant mode of fluoride sorption at low pH, while Mg-F is predominant at high pH. These findings provide insights into the different roles of surface >MgOH and >AlOH sites in defluoridation processes.
