Multi-analyte gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method to monitor bisphenols, musk fragrances, ultraviolet filters, and pesticide residues in seafood

Mateus Henrique Petrarca et al.

Summary: A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method was developed for analyzing thirty-six anthropogenic contaminants in four distinct seafood items. The method successfully quantified pesticide residues, bisphenols, musk fragrances, and UV-filters in algae, mussel, lean, and fatty fish muscles, with matrix effects influenced by the type of seafood. The proposed method was shown to be suitable for future seafood monitoring by food safety authorities.

Occurrence and seasonal variation of several endocrine disruptor compounds (pesticides, bisphenols, musks and UV-filters) in water and sediments from the estuaries of Tagus and Douro Rivers (NE Atlantic Ocean coast)

Sara C. Cunha et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the levels of endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) in water and sediment samples from the estuaries of Tagus and Douro Rivers. The results showed that pesticide residues and bisphenols were more contaminated in the Tagus estuary, while polycyclic musks and UV-filters had lower levels of contamination in both estuaries.

Simultaneous determination of multi-pesticide residues in fish and shrimp using dispersive-solid phase extraction with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

Dasom Shin et al.

Summary: In this study, an analytical method for the simultaneous determination of multi-pesticide residues in fishery products was developed and optimized using dispersive-solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The method was validated for accuracy, precision, and limits of detection according to Codex guidelines, showing satisfactory results. The proposed method successfully detected and quantified pesticide residues in fresh fish and shrimp samples obtained from domestic markets in Korea.

Krishnamoorthi Vimalkumar et al.

Summary: The study investigated the occurrence and fate of synthetic musks in three major rivers in Tamil Nadu, India, finding the presence of SMs in both surface water and fish samples. Despite the low detection frequency, some rivers were contaminated with high concentrations of synthetic musks.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers and their methoxylated congeners in Douro river estuary biota: Seasonal occurrence and risk assessment

Dhoone Menezes-Sousa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seasonal occurrence of PBDEs and MeO-BDEs congeners in Douro river biota, finding that lower-brominated PBDE congeners were higher than higher-brominated ones, with crabs and mussels having the highest levels. Health risk assessment showed that consumption of Douro river fish is not a concern for consumers.

Levels and trends of synthetic musks in marine bivalves from French coastal areas

Yann Aminot et al.

Summary: The levels and trends of four bioaccumulative synthetic musks were investigated along the French coasts since 2010, showing their extensive occurrence and geographical variations. The study highlighted high concentrations of polycyclic musks HHCB and AHTN, while nitromusks were found in lower levels. The data analysis provided reference for future studies on the occurrence of personal care products on European coasts.
