Targeted and nontargeted metabolomics analysis for determining the effect of storage time on the metabolites and taste quality of keemun black tea

Ai Huang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the storage years have an impact on the chemical composition and taste quality of Keemun black tea. As storage time increases, the degradation of main polyphenols leads to a decrease in bitterness, astringency, and umami intensity, while sweetness intensity increases. The content of fatty acids is positively correlated with storage time and sweetness intensity.

Extracts of Perilla frutescens var. Acuta (Odash.) Kudo Leaves Have Antitumor Effects on Breast Cancer Cells by Suppressing YAP Activity

Cho-Long Kim et al.

Summary: The study shows that Perilla frutescens var. acuta (Odash.) Kudo leaf extract inhibits tumor cell growth and migration by phosphorylating YAP/TAZ and disrupting their interaction with the TEAD complex. This antitumor effect was demonstrated in triple-negative breast cancer cells through induced apoptosis and reduced migration, with the inhibition of migration being primarily regulated by YAP activity.

Effects of Nocturnal UV-B Irradiation on Growth, Flowering, and Phytochemical Concentration in Leaves of Greenhouse-Grown Red Perilla

Hideo Yoshida et al.

Summary: This study found that under continuous UV-B irradiation at 0.05 W m(-2) for 3 hours, the concentration of RA in perilla leaves doubled without affecting PA concentration. This irradiation condition can effectively produce RA-rich perilla leaves without reducing in phenotypic quality or productivity. However, a 6-hour intermittent illumination inhibits flowering.

Rapid classification and identification of chemical constituents in Epimedium koreanum Nakai by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS combined with data post-processing techniques

Ning Li et al.

Summary: A method for rapid classification and identification of the main components of flavonoids, organic acids, and alkaloids in Epimedium koreanum Nakai (EKN) was established using UPLC-Q-TOF-MS. 51 chemical components, including 40 flavonoids, nine organic acids, and two alkaloids, were successfully screened out. This method not only comprehensively analyzed the chemical compositions of EKN, solved the difficult problems of analysis and identification of the complex chemical compositions of traditional Chinese medicine, but also further promoted the development of the application of chemical compositions of TCM.
