Discrimination and classification of wines based on polypyrrole modified screen-printed carbon electrodes coupled with multivariate data analysis

Elisabeta-Irina Geana et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of voltammetric sensors based on screen-printed carbon electrodes modified with polypyrrole doped with different doping agents for the rapid fingerprinting and classification of white and red wines based on grape variety and vintage year. The cyclic voltammograms showed distinct waves corresponding to electrochemical activity of polypyrrole, doping agent, and oxidation of various compounds, facilitating discrimination of wines. Multivariate statistical analysis using PCA and LDA successfully classified wines with accuracy ranging from 50.00% to 100.00%, and could differentiate between young and aged wines.
