Heavy metal pollution levels, source apportionment and risk assessment in dust storms in key cities in Northwest China

Haiping Luo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that heavy metals in dust storms are mainly contaminated by human activities, with sources from industrial, transportation, natural, and agricultural sectors. The comprehensive ecological risk of heavy metals is low, but moderate and above risks exist at individual sites. Both adults and children face higher carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks from the ingestion route, with children having higher risks than adults.

Exploring the Properties of Micronized Natural Zeolitic Volcanic Tuff as Cosmetic Ingredient

Emilia Neag et al.

Summary: This study explores the characteristics of a micronized natural zeolitic volcanic tuff (MZ) in cosmetic formulations. The results show that the micronization treatment did not produce significant changes in the structure and properties of the raw material. The prepared cosmetic formulations exhibited good stability and sensory properties after stability tests under different temperature conditions.

Effects of Zinc Oxide/Zeolite on Intestinal Morphology, Intestinal Microflora, and Diarrhea Rates in Weaned Piglets

Jingjing Wang et al.

Summary: The study showed that replacing high-dosed zinc oxide with zeolite-supported zinc oxide reduced diarrhea rate, improved serum biochemical indicators, increased serum total protein levels, and regulated intestinal microflora in weaned piglets. However, this replacement did not significantly affect growth performance and intestinal morphology.

In vitro assessment oral and respiratory bioaccessibility of Mn in school dust: Insight of seasonality in a semiarid environment

Benedetto Schiavo et al.

Summary: In school environments in the Sonoran Desert, dust contains anomalously high manganese (Mn) of geogenic origin, and non-carcinogenic risk assessment for children exposed to Mn showed potential health risks. Seasonal sampling revealed differences in manganese bioaccessibility and health hazards, highlighting the importance of considering seasonal factors in risk assessment in arid zones.

Trace element contamination of soil and dust by a New Caledonian ferronickel smelter: Dispersal, enrichment, and human health risk

K. L. Fry et al.

Summary: This study uses a multi-method and multi-matrix approach to distinguish smelter emissions from natural sources and model health risks from industrial activities. Elevated levels of smelter-related trace elements were identified in soil and dust samples, showing a negative correlation with distance from the facility. The analysis of potential toxic trace elements being tracked into homes highlights the need for further attention to protect community health.

A reviewon in-vitro oral bioaccessibility of organic pollutants and its application in human exposure assessment

Meijuan Lu et al.

Summary: Human oral exposure assessments of contaminants have often overestimated exposure and health risks by not considering absorption factors in the gastrointestinal tract. More researchers are now incorporating absorption factors and using bioaccessibility measurements, but further research on hydrophobic organic compounds is needed for in-vitro methods.

Nahla E. M. Ismael et al.

Summary: The addition of ZEO and/or ChNP in Nile tilapia diets can significantly reduce the toxic effects of IMID. Among these additives, ZEO has a significant improvement on the growth parameters of fish, while ChNP has positive effects on blood levels and immune function.

Risk Assessment of Lead and Cadmium in Some Food Supplements Available on the Romanian Market

Gabriel Mustatea et al.

Summary: The consumption of food supplements has been increasing globally, but there are health risks associated with their use. A study on the lead and cadmium content of 41 food supplements in the Romanian market found that the levels fell within legal limits, but there were still small risks identified, with a recommendation to decrease daily doses.

Fariba Dashtestani et al.

Summary: Xylanase was immobilized on zeolitic nanoporous modified with L-lysine to design smart pH-responsive nanosystem Zeozyme NPs, which showed enhanced stability and preserved activity in the GI tract. The study confirmed a smart pH-dependent release of xylanase in an in vitro simulated GI tract by Zeozyme NPs.
