Phytochemical profiling of spiny coriander (Eryngium foetidum L.) - A potential perennial spicing-culinary herb of eastern India

Gobinda Chandra Acharya et al.

Summary: Spiny coriander is a perennial medicinal herb with wide application, particularly in India. A study revealed that the spiny coriander found in coastal Odisha, India has a similar aroma to seasonal coriander and a high chemodiversity. Through scientific analysis, the volatile flavor compounds of these unique plants were identified, with 10-undecenal as the major component. The lesser-known spiny coriander, with its high chemodiversity, could serve as a better alternative to seasonal coriander for aromatic, pharmaceutical, and industrial uses.

Anethole rich Clausena heptaphylla (Roxb.) Wight & Arn., essential oil pharmacology and genotoxic efficiencies

Mohan Lal et al.

Summary: ARCHEO, an essential oil rich in anethole sourced from Clausena heptaphylla leaves, showed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities superior to standard compound anethole. It also exhibited stronger anti-diabetic, skin whitening, and neurodegenerative disorder inhibitory activities. However, it had lower antimicrobial activity compared to anethole and did not show genotoxic effects. ARCHEO could serve as a commercially viable and easily accessible alternative source of anethole for the food flavoring, fragrance, and pharmaceutical industries.
