Distribution and dynamics of particulate organic matter in Indian mangroves during dry period

Harikrishna Prasad Mamidala et al.

Summary: The distribution and sources of particulate organic carbon and nitrogen in mangroves ecosystems along the east and west coast of India were examined. The results showed that water quality in these mangrove waters is influenced by land-based contaminants and the concentration of particulate organic carbon is higher in the east coast.

Decomposition and nutrient dynamics responses of plant litter to interactive effects of flooding and salinity in Yellow River Delta wetland in northeastern China

Jiexiu Zhai et al.

Summary: The decomposition rate of plant litter is mainly controlled by litter quality and environmental factors. In this study, it was found that higher salinity under inundation conditions can lead to faster decomposition rates, while the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorous showed an upward trend during the process. Additionally, both water chemical oxygen demand and NH3-N concentration were inversely correlated with salinity.

Assessment of bioavailable nitrogen and phosphorus content in the sediments of Indian mangroves

Yudhistir Reddy et al.

Summary: Efficient nutrient cycling and adequate sediment bioavailable nutrient supply are crucial for regulating high productivity and carbon sequestration in mangrove ecosystems. The study found spatial variability and regulating factors of sediment and water-dissolved nutrients in five mangrove ecosystems along the east and west coast of India. The stoichiometry of bioavailable nutrients in mangrove sediments deviated significantly from the Redfield ratio, indicating strong phosphorus limitation in most ecosystems.
