Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy in the Characterisation and Application of Modified Electrodes for Electrochemical Sensors and Biosensors

Christopher M. A. Brett

Summary: Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is increasingly used in the characterization and quantitative determination of electrochemical sensors and biosensors. However, current research often fails to fully utilize the information obtained from full physical modeling and analysis of the impedance spectra, thus providing only superficial insights into the underlying processes. This article presents the fundamentals of electrochemical impedance for sensors and biosensors, with a focus on the necessary electrical circuit elements. Examples are provided to demonstrate the use of impedance spectroscopy in characterization and electroanalytical applications, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the complete information obtained from modeling and analysis. The future prospects of electrochemical impedance in the sensing field are also discussed.

Fully Flexible, Highly Conductive Threads Based on single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNTs) and poly (3,4 ethylenedioxy thiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)

Fahad Alhashmi Alamer et al.

Summary: The layer thread with a combination of PEDOT:PSS and SWCNTs has the lowest resistance, while requiring the least amount of material compared to using either SWCNTs or PEDOT:PSS alone. Additionally, all resistances exhibit metallic behavior as a function of temperature up to 90 degrees C, and this behavior is stable for a period of at least 3 months.
