Refactoring phosphorylated hydrogel-like interface of demineralized dentin matrix via actively induced formation of nano-ACPs forms a defect-low hybrid layer promoting adhesive dentistry

Chang Shu et al.

Summary: The durability problem of dentin bonding in clinical dentistry is caused by inadequate infiltration of adhesives into demineralized dentin matrix (DDM), and the primary cause is the hydrogel-like interface formed by phosphorylated non-collagenous proteins. A novel bonding strategy based on hydrogel-like interface dehydrogelation refactoring is proposed, which improves the physical compatibility between the DDM interface and adhesives, resulting in defect-low bonding interface with improved bonding strength and stability.

Reconstruction of a Demineralized Dentin Matrix via Rapid Deposition of CaF2 Nanoparticles In Situ Promotes Dentin Bonding

Jiajia Xu et al.

Summary: This study suggests that the highly hydrated noncollagenous protein (NCP)-formed interfacial microenvironment in the demineralized dentin (DD) matrix is the main reason for limited bonding durability in contemporary adhesive dentistry. By inducing the formation of amorphous CaF2 nanoparticles in situ, the DD matrix is reconstructed into a novel porous structure, facilitating the infiltration of dentin adhesives and enhancing bonding effectiveness. The nanoreinforced DD matrix eliminates the dependence on moisture status of the DD surface, greatly improving bonding durability and overcoming technical sensitivity of bonding operations.
