A novel injectable fibromodulin-releasing granular hydrogel for tendon healing and functional recovery

Xue Xu et al.

Summary: Tendons are commonly injured tissues in the musculoskeletal system, and current treatments for enhancing tendon healing have not achieved significant clinical improvements. In this study, a novel FMOD/gHA-hydrogel was developed to deliver FMOD and enhance tendon healing. The hydrogel exhibited desired characteristics, such as microinvasive application and a two-phase release of FMOD. The hydrogel significantly improved tendon healing in a rat model.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of two common burial practices on bone protein preservation and finds that one type of burial practice is more conducive to protein preservation. In addition, several potential protein markers are identified for estimating post-mortem interval and age at death.

Summary: Small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRPs) play a crucial role in regulating tendon structure and biomechanics, offering a promising method for tendon injury management. However, current knowledge on the role of SLRPs in tendon development and regeneration is limited, requiring further investigations.

Coupled fibromodulin and SOX2 signaling as a critical regulator of metastatic outgrowth in melanoma

Victor O. Oria et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms controlling the metastatic outgrowth of melanoma and identified the cooperation between FMOD and SOX2 as a novel regulatory mechanism that may be functionally linked to melanoma metastatic competence. It also revealed the important roles of FMOD and SOX2 in tumor vasculogenic mimicry and transcriptional activation, possibly through interaction with the tumor suppressor Hippo pathway. Furthermore, high expression of both genes in patient specimens predicted early development of brain metastasis.

A guide to the composition and functions of the extracellular matrix

Nikos K. Karamanos et al.

Summary: Extracellular matrix (ECM) is a dynamic 3-dimensional network of macromolecules providing structural support for cells and tissues. It plays key regulatory roles in cell signaling, functions, and morphology. Different ECM components affect cell processes such as proliferation, migration, differentiation, angiogenesis, and immunity regulation, with structural alterations associated with disease progression.
