Non-thermal origin of asymmetric dark matter from inflaton and primordial black holes

Basabendu Barman et al.

Summary: This study investigates the possibility of co-genesis of baryon and dark matter through the decay of right-handed neutrinos, considering two non-thermal scenarios: resonance decay of inflaton and evaporation of ultralight primordial black holes. By setting up a complete set of Boltzmann equations, the parameter space of the particle physics setup is constrained to ensure the correct abundance of dark matter and baryon asymmetry, while being consistent with other cosmological bounds.

Gravitational waves from quasi-stable strings

George Lazarides et al.

Summary: This study estimates the effects of stable cosmic strings on the emitted gravitational wave spectrum. By considering the inflation effects, the lower frequency portion of the spectrum is effectively suppressed, evading the constraints on string tension. The authors also present experimental results and explain the realization of this "quasi-stable" string network in realistic theories.

Heavier W boson, dark matter, and gravitational waves from strings in an SO(10) axion model

George Lazarides et al.

Summary: Inspired by the recent determination of the W-boson mass, this study revisits an SO(10) axion model and finds that a scalar SU(2)(L) triplet field can significantly contribute to the W mass, thereby resolving the discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction and the experimental measurement. The model also satisfies gauge coupling unification and observable proton decay, and predicts the existence of axion and stable intermediate mass fermion as dark matter candidates. Furthermore, the model predicts the gravitational wave spectrum from topologically stable cosmic strings.

Tracking down the route to the SM with inflation and gravitational waves

Eung Jin Chun et al.

Summary: This paper explores supersymmetric SO(10) models that predict observable proton decay and different strengths of gravitational wave backgrounds depending on the scales of symmetry breaking and inflation. By identifying the scales at which gravitational wave signals appear, the origin of a particular breaking chain can be determined if it is of supersymmetric origin or not. It is also beneficial to observe gravitational waves from different sources to obtain a realistic breaking chain.

Sneutrino tribrid inflation, metastable cosmic strings and gravitational waves

Muhammad Atif Masoud et al.

Summary: This study presents a successful realization of the sneutrino tribrid inflation model based on a gauged U(1)(B-L) extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). By involving a single interaction term, it achieves multiple purposes such as generating heavy Majorana masses for the right-handed neutrinos, explaining tiny neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism, and successfully realizing inflation with right-handed sneutrino as the inflaton. Depending on the model parameters, predicted ranges for the tensor to scalar ratio, running of the scalar spectral index, and B-L breaking scale are provided. A discussion on the possibility of realizing metastable cosmic strings in a grand unified theory setup is also included.

Stochastic gravitational-wave background from metastable cosmic strings

Wilfried Buchmueller et al.

Summary: A metastable cosmic-string network is formed when many grand unified theories (GUTs) are combined with cosmic inflation, leading to long strings and loops on different scales. The gravitational waves emitted by string loops are the main contribution to the gravitational-wave spectrum, supporting the potential discovery of a stochastic gravitational-wave background in the near future.

Summary: Pulsar timing data was used to set upper limits on a stochastic gravitational wave background, but recent findings from the NANOGrav Collaboration suggest a stochastic common-spectrum process, potentially related to cosmic strings. The SGWB signal identified by NANOGrav falls within a specific range of string tension values and could be measured by various detectors beyond the capabilities of LIGO.

Metastable strings and dumbbells in supersymmetric hybrid inflation

Wilfried Buchmueller

Summary: The study investigates symmetry breaking and topological defects in a supersymmetric model with gauge group U(2), which predicts the formation of either monopoles and strings or dumbbells during two phases of hybrid inflation terminated by tachyonic preheating. In one case, a stochastic gravitational wave background generated by a metastable cosmic string network is predicted in the LIGO-Virgo band, extending possibly to the LISA frequency band and to nanohertz frequencies, while in the other case, no topological defects survive inflation and no stochastic gravitational wave background is produced.

Nonthermal leptogenesis and UV freeze-in of dark matter: Impact of inflationary reheating

Basabendu Barman et al.

Summary: In this study, a minimal scenario is proposed to achieve nonthermal leptogenesis and UV freeze-in of dark matter simultaneously, with the inflaton field playing a significant role. By considering different dimensions of operators and coupling with RHNs, it is shown that the observed baryon asymmetry and relic density of dark matter can be explained. The parameter space of this scenario is constrained by relevant phenomenological requirements including sub-eV scale active neutrino masses and their mixing, taking into account both instantaneous and noninstantaneous reheating.
