Behavior of Splicing GFRP-Concrete-Steel Double-Skin Tubular Columns Subject to Eccentric Compression

Xue Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical performance of GFRP-concrete-steel double-skin tubular columns under eccentric compression load with a specific splice method, showing ductile failure and prevention of joint failure with arranged connection steel cage. The proposed splice method satisfies strength requirements and can increase ultimate load by more than 20%, while the increase of load eccentricity and hollow ratio decreases ultimate load, initial stiffness, and ductility of the column. The experimental verification of the theoretical calculation method demonstrates its accuracy in predicting the bearing capacity of the splicing DSTCs.

Experimental Study on FRP-Reinforced Concrete-Steel Double-Skin Tubular Columns under Eccentric Compression Loads

Haiyang Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behavior of composite columns under eccentric compression and found that the arrangement of steel bars inside the hybrid DSTCs could improve the eccentric carrying capacity and ductility of the composite columns. The results indicated that the eccentric carrying capacity and initial stiffness decreased as the eccentricity and void ratio increased, while they increased with the longitudinal reinforcement ratio and concrete strength. The growth rate of the carrying capacity decreased when the longitudinal reinforcement ratio reached 3.66%.
