Analysis of a model for longitudinal electromagnetic stirring in the continuous casting of steel

Arash S. Nick et al.

Summary: In the continuous casting process, the width of the steel bloom and the pole pitch of the stirrer affect the magnetic flux density. While the three components of the magnetic flux density vector are coupled, the component along the direction of the travelling wave can be decoupled and determined analytically in the form of a series solution. The remaining two components can be found through two-dimensional computation, but generally cannot be determined without considering the surrounding air.
