Tri-metallic AuPdIr nanoalloy towards efficient hydrogen generation from formic acid

Dong-Xue Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient catalyst Au0.35Pd0.5Ir0.15/NH2-N-rGO was successfully synthesized and applied for hydrogen generation from formic acid. The addition of Ir was found to change the rate determining step and improve the conversion and selectivity of the catalyst. Furthermore, it was shown that this method can be extended to other tri-metallic alloys with the addition of other high gamma elements, resulting in effective catalysts for hydrogen generation from formic acid.

Robust hydrogen production from HCOOH over amino-modified KIT-6-confined PdIr alloy nanoparticles

Wenfang Peng et al.

Summary: This study confined well-dispersed and electron-rich PdIr alloy nanoparticles in amino-modified 3D mesoporous silica KIT-6 to serve as a highly efficient catalyst for hydrogen production from formic acid at ambient temperature. The obtained PdIr/KIT-6-NH2 catalyst exhibited high catalytic activity, attributed to the synergistic effect between Pd and Ir and the role of amino groups in KIT-6-NH2 in promoting formic acid decomposition.

Bimetallic palladium chromium nanoparticles anchored on amine-functionalized titanium carbides for remarkably catalytic dehydrogenation of formic acid at mild conditions

Zongji Zhang et al.

Summary: Heterogeneous catalysis of formic acid dehydrogenation is considered a promising strategy for safe and efficient hydrogen production and transportation. This study reports the immobilization of bimetallic PdCr nanoparticles on amine-functionalized titanium carbides (PdCr/NH2-MXene). The introduction of the amine group not only helps disperse ultrafine PdCr nanoparticles on MXene but also enhances catalytic activity for formic acid dehydrogenation. The optimized Pd0.7Cr0.3/NH2-MXene system exhibits excellent catalytic performance.

Ultrasmall AuPd nanoclusters on amine-functionalized carbon blacks as high-performance bi-functional catalysts for ethanol electrooxidation and formic acid dehydrogenation

Yuhuan Cui et al.

Summary: A facile wet-chemical method was developed to synthesize ultrasmall metal nanoclusters with high catalytic activities. The resulting AuPd nanoclusters exhibited significantly improved specific and mass activities for ethanol electrooxidation compared to commercial Pd/C catalysts. Moreover, the nanoclusters showed a much higher initial turnover frequency for formic acid dehydrogenation than most reported AuPd catalysts, indicating their potential for various applications.

Selective dehydrogenation of aqueous formic acid over multifunctional ?-Mo2N catalysts at a temperature lower than 100?

Zhongliang Yu et al.

Summary: Efficient dehydrogenation of aqueous formic acid (FA) for hydrogen production using non-noblemetal-based heterogeneous catalysts remains challenging. In this study, a biomass-derived multifunctional gamma-Mo2N catalyst was synthesized and showed high dehydrogenation activity for aqueous FA, without significant deactivation during stability testing. Mechanism investigations revealed that the catalyst's active sites and cooperation played a crucial role in the dehydrogenation activity.

Ultrasmall PdAu alloy nanoparticles anchored on amine-functionalized hierarchically porous carbon as additive-free catalysts for highly efficient dehydrogenation of formic acid

Zhenzhen Wang et al.

Summary: The role of mass transport for bubble generation reaction in FA dehydrogenation has been overlooked for a long time, limiting the TOF values of most catalysts to less than 1000 h(-1). By proposing a design principle of efficient catalyst with synergism of highly active catalytic components and developed porous structure for effective mass transport, a Pd60Au40/HPC-NH2 catalyst with ultrasmall nanoparticles has been developed, exhibiting TOF values up to 3763 h(-1) at room temperature and 29,210 h(-1) at 323 K.
