Erythritol air polishing in the surgical treatment of peri-implantitis: A randomized controlled trial

Summary: This study compared erythritol air polishing with saline cleansing of implant surfaces during surgical treatment of peri-implantitis. The results showed no significant differences between the two methods in terms of bleeding on probing, plaque score, probing pocket depth, and marginal bone loss, but a significant difference was found in suppuration on probing. Both methods resulted in low treatment success rates.

Laser-assisted regenerative surgical therapy for peri-implantitis: A randomized controlled clinical trial

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the adjunctive benefits of Er:YAG laser irradiation for regenerative surgical therapy of peri-implantitis-associated osseous defects. The results showed that using laser irradiation during peri-implantitis regenerative therapy may aid in better probing pocket depth reduction, particularly in narrow infrabony defects. However, a larger sample size and longer follow-up are needed to confirm if Er:YAG laser irradiation provides additional clinical benefits for peri-implantitis regenerative therapy.

Summary: The efficacy of alternative or adjunctive measures in treating peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis was evaluated. Alternative measures were superior in reducing bleeding on probing values following non-surgical treatment of peri-implantitis, while adjunctive reconstructive measures were beneficial regarding radiographic bone-defect fill/reduction, PD reduction, and lower soft-tissue recession.
