Energy assessments of onboard CO2 capture from ship engines by MEA-based post combustion capture system with flue gas heat integration

A. Einbu et al.

Summary: The study found that the thermal energy from ship engine exhaust gas alone is not sufficient to meet the thermal energy demand of an absorption-based CO2 capture unit, requiring the use of a fuel afterburner. When using LNG or diesel as fuel sources, the fuel consumption is estimated to increase accordingly.

A multi-generation system for hydrogen production through the high-temperature solid oxide electrolyzer integrated to 150 MW coal-fired steam boiler

Oguz Arslan et al.

Summary: This study designs a multi-generation system to achieve comprehensive energy utilization in a coal-fired power plant by waste heat recovery. H-2 is produced through a high-temperature electrolyzer, and the O-2 produced by the electrolyzer is used to improve the combustion process. The required power for the electrolyzer is obtained from a bottoming organic Rankine cycle, and the required high-temperature heat is obtained through a heat exchanger. The system is analyzed using energy and exergy methods and shows stable H-2 production at different temperatures and current densities, with high energy and exergy efficiency.

Investigation of a new energy system for clean methanol production

Haris Ishaq et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing a novel system for renewable energy-based methanol production using solar heliostat and solar PV subsystems. The system includes major components such as a solar heliostat field, Cu-Cl cycle, refrigeration, methanol production, and separation. Clean hydrogen is produced through a four-step Cu-Cl cycle, which is then synthesized into methanol. Modeling and simulation are performed using Engineering Equation Solver and Aspen Plus, and the overall energy and exergy efficiencies are calculated. Sensitivity results are also presented and discussed in the study.
