Extraction of precious metals from waste printed circuit boards using cyanide-free alkaline glycine solution in the presence of an oxidant

Huan Li et al.

Summary: This study provides a greener approach to extract precious metals from waste printed circuit boards using alkaline glycine solution in the presence of an oxidant. Two oxidants, potassium permanganate and potassium ferricyanide, were compared in alkaline media. The results showed that decreasing particle size and increasing oxidant concentration significantly enhanced gold extraction.

Green extraction of nickel and valuable metals from pyrrhotite samples with different crystallographic structures through acidophilic bioleaching

Gholamreza Khodadadmahmoudi et al.

Summary: The utilization of low-grade nickel resources, such as pyrrhotite containing nickel, is important due to nickel's strategic status in the global market. This study conducted experiments and analyses to determine the bioleaching capability and mechanism of extracting nickel from hexagonal and monoclinic pyrrhotite. The results showed high nickel extraction rates, and the bioleached residues were deemed environmentally safe.

A review of thiocyanate gold leaching - Chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics and processing

Atefeh Azizitorghabeh et al.

Summary: Thiocyanate is a promising alternative gold lixiviant with low toxicity compared to cyanide, but its commercialization has been hindered by the higher redox potential required for the process. Gold leaching using thiocyanate is an electrochemical reaction that requires an oxidant, mainly ferric, and a specific molar ratio of oxidant to thiocyanate for efficient gold oxidation kinetics. Recovery of solubilized gold-thiocyanate species from the pregnant leach solution can be achieved through various methods, such as activated carbon adsorption and ion exchange.

Effect of Acid Leaching Pre-Treatment on Gold Extraction from Printed Circuit Boards of Spent Mobile Phones

Nicolo Maria Ippolito et al.

Summary: The study explored the effectiveness of a preliminary acid leaching process for recovering gold from spent mobile phone printed circuit boards. Two hydrometallurgical routes were tested to recover copper first to prevent competition with gold in the subsequent thiourea leaching. The recovery rates of copper and gold varied depending on the route and operational parameters.

Leaching of a polymetal gold ore and reducing cyanide consumption using cyanide-glycine solutions

Kianoush Barani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the leaching of a polymetal gold ore using a synergistic lixiviant mixture of cyanide and glycine. Increasing cyanide concentration from 500 to 1500 ppm resulted in a higher gold dissolution rate. However, using 0.5-1 M/L glycine in 500 ppm cyanide can achieve 90% gold dissolution with increased copper dissolution.。Reducing cyanide consumption by approximately 80% was achieved at the optimal approach, but increasing glycine concentration also led to higher dissolution of other metals like Pb, Zn, Fe, Ag, and Cu.

Estimating Recycling Return of Integrated Circuits Using Computer Vision on Printed Circuit Boards

Leandro H. de S. Silva et al.

Summary: Technological advancements have led to improvements in daily life, but also raised concerns about how to deal with electronic waste, particularly waste PCBs. Recycling waste PCBs, which contain precious materials and components, is challenging due to their diverse composition. A proposed method aims to evaluate the economic feasibility of recycling ICs from WPCBs, involving estimating IC area and weight, and determining the potential metal recovery. The use of deep learning models like YOLO has shown promising results in detecting ICs from WPCBs, with the potential to extract a significant amount of metals and silicon elements for recycling.
