Confinement of Au, Pd and Pt nanoparticle with reduced sizes: Significant improvement of dispersion degree and catalytic activity

Fazle Subhan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a single-step strategy to confine Pd, Pt, and Au nanoparticles (NPs) in nanoconfined spaces of template occluded as-made KIT-6 (AK). The results show that this strategy promotes the formation of NPs with smaller size, which endows the catalysts with excellent catalytic activity. Among the three catalysts, AK-Pd exhibits the best catalytic activity, as confirmed by the reaction rate constant. The synthesized catalysts also demonstrate good reusability, making them highly promising for applications in catalytic reactions.

Highly dispersive Cu species constructed in mesoporous silica derived from ZSM-5 for batch and continuous adsorptive desulfurization of thiophene

Fazle Subhan et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized micro-mesoporous silica (MMZ) using dissolution and self-assembly method, and improved the adsorption capacity of thiophene by enhancing active sites and structural properties. The adsorption capacity of MMZ was higher than traditional ZSM-5 materials, and the ADS activity towards thiophene can be recovered well.

Tuning the redox activity of polyoxometalate by central atom for high-efficient desulfurization

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the efficient removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) using polyoxometalates (POMs). The desulfurization activity of POMs can be internally switched by the central atoms, with the SVI-centered POM showing greatly enhanced desulfurization performance compared to other structural analogs. Furthermore, electrochemical re-oxidation of the H2S laden POM was found to significantly increase its capacity. This work opens up new possibilities for the rational design of POMs in H2S removal.

A novel catalyst of nickel-loaded graphene decorated on molybdenum-alumina for the HDS of liquid fuels

Tawfik A. Saleh et al.

Summary: The study focused on the catalytic efficiency of the AlMoGNi catalyst for the HDS of DBT, synthesized by loading Ni promoter on graphene and Mo catalyst on alumina separately, and then combining Ni/graphene with Mo/alumina. The AlMoGNi catalyst showed superior performance in reducing sulfur concentration in fuel compared to catalyst without graphene, attributed to its textural properties, surface acidity, and nanoparticle dispersion. The HDS process over the AlMoGNi catalyst involved hydrogenolysis and hydrogenation desulfurization pathways.

Deep aerobic oxidative desulfurization of model fuel by Anderson-type polyoxometalate catalysts

Ekaterina Eseva et al.

Summary: Anderson-type polyoxometalate (POM) catalysts were synthesized and applied for deep oxidative desulfurization of model fuel containing dibenzothiophene. The role of solvent in aerobic oxidative desulfurization was investigated, showing that alkyl peroxides from the solvent could be the key stage in the oxidation of sulfur-containing compound. This study provides insights into the mechanism of oxidative desulfurization and the potential application of POM catalysts in sulfur removal from fuel.

Graphene modified porous organic polymer supported phosphotungstic acid catalyst for alkylation desulfurization

Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: A new strategy using graphene to modify porous organic solid acid catalyst has been proposed, resulting in the successful preparation of a graphene-modified supported phosphotungstic acid catalyst. The graphene modification increases the adsorption capacity of 3-methylthiophene, enhances the selective adsorption, and shows higher alkylation desulfurization activity in the catalytic activity test. The catalyst also demonstrates good recycling performance after multiple recycles, indicating its broad application prospects in the field of alkylation desulfurization.
