Coaxial electrospinning Fe2O3@Co3O4 double-shelled nanotubes for enhanced ethanol sensing performance in a wide humidity range

Xuehua Chen et al.

Summary: Gas sensors, especially Co3O4-based sensors, play a crucial role in air monitoring and specific detection of exhaled biomarkers. Fe2O3@Co3O4 double-shelled nanotubes (DSNTs) were successfully synthesized to enhance the sensor's conductivity and regulate oxygen-vacancy defects. The Fe2O3@Co3O4-1 DSNTs based sensor showed improved ethanol detection capabilities with a lower detection limit and higher response compared to pure Co3O4 HNTs, even in high humidity conditions. The enhanced gas-sensing performance is attributed to the double-shelled hollow structures and heterojunctions, which provide more active sites for gas adsorption on the sensor's surface.
