Linkage among Urbanization, energy Consumption, economic growth and carbon Emissions. Panel data analysis for China using ARDL model

Haichao Liu et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of energy consumption, economic development, urbanization, and energy consumption on carbon emissions using panel cointegration tests and pooled mean group (PMG-ARDL) approaches. The results reveal that urbanization has no significant effect on environmental quality, while energy usage significantly increases environmental harm. Further research indicates that environmental distortion is a long-term consequence of economic expansion. The responsibility of achieving a green and clean environment lies with government officials and politicians, who should prioritize appropriate energy management, urban planning, and pollution reduction without impeding economic growth.

Official development assistance and carbon emissions of recipient countries: A dynamic panel threshold analysis for low- and lower-middle-income countries

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: The study used a dynamic panel threshold regression model to investigate the relationship between official development assistance and carbon emissions in 59 low-income and lower-middle-income countries. The research found that the urbanization level of recipient countries has a threshold effect on the relationship between official development assistance and carbon emissions. Additionally, the conditional convergence level of carbon emission growth in low-urbanization areas is significantly higher than that in high-urbanization areas.

Convolutional neural network forecasting of European Union allowances futures using a novel unconstrained transformation method

Wenyang Huang et al.

Summary: This paper develops a forecasting framework for OHLC data, combining EU ETS data and extended exogenous variables. The proposed transformation-based method, combined with various forecasting models, demonstrates extraordinary performance, especially with the use of convolutional neural network (CNN). This research shows significant potential for OHLC data forecasting in the energy finance field.

Emission trading scheme, technological innovation, and competitiveness: Evidence from China's thermal power enterprises

Yigang Wei et al.

Summary: This study explores whether the Porter hypothesis is present in China's emission trading scheme (ETS) and finds that the weak Porter hypothesis cannot be realized initially, but a significant technological innovation is stimulated when carbon price rises. The economic performance of enterprises exhibits an inverted U-shaped trend, where innovation offsets initially enhance economic performance, but further tightening of allowances may have a negative impact on competitiveness. Enterprises that embrace technological innovation proactively earn higher profits.

Impact of Agriculture and Energy on CO2 Emissions in Zambia

Joseph Phiri et al.

Summary: This study utilizes econometric analysis to examine the impact of agriculture and energy production on CO2 emissions in Zambia. The findings indicate a long-term equilibrium relationship and short-term causality between these variables, suggesting recommendations such as increasing access to renewable energy sources, promoting afforestation, and implementing environmentally friendly agricultural methods.

Do greenhouse gas emissions drive extreme weather conditions at the city level in China? Evidence from spatial effects analysis

Zhiming Yang et al.

Summary: This study uses spatial econometric models to investigate the impact of CO2 emissions on extreme temperatures in Chinese cities. The results show that an increase in emissions leads to a higher probability of extreme heat and a lower probability of extreme cold. Taking spatial effects into consideration, CO2 emissions increase the likelihood of extreme heat in local cities while decreasing it in nearby cities.

COVID-19 and Global Supply Chain Configuration: Economic and Emissions Impacts of Australia-China Trade Disruptions

Xunpeng Shi et al.

Summary: This study examines the economic and emissions impacts of reorganising supply chains, using Australia-China trade as an example. Despite alternative supply chains compensating for a trade embargo between Australia and China, there will still be gross domestic production losses and emissions increases for both countries and the world overall.

Quality of Life and Relative Household Energy Consumption in China

Xunpeng Shi et al.

Summary: This study reveals the existence of convergence clubs in relative household energy consumption with consumption upgrading, especially more evident in lower middle and low quality of life groups. Significant disparities are found among urban and rural households as well as different regions within the same quality of life group. The results suggest that an improvement in quality of life does not necessarily lead to a higher level of energy consumption.

Evolution of future world coal consumption: insights from a distribution dynamics approach

Xunpeng Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the likelihood of some developing countries emerging as significant coal users, finding that low income and lower middle income economies may increase their coal consumption in the future. The findings suggest that global policy coordination focusing on prospective coal users should be adopted to address the issue.

New evidence on the convergence and regional clusters in China: a weighted continuous distribution dynamics approach

Jianxin Wu et al.

Summary: This study examines income convergence in Chinese provinces from 1952 to 2013, finding different distributions before and after reforms, with a recent unimodal distribution. The results suggest relocating people and economic activities to high-income provinces as an important approach to reduce relative poverty. Geographical location, capital accumulation, trade openness, and industrial structure significantly influence the dynamics of per capita GDP distribution. The observed bimodality cannot be explained by any of these factors.
