Recycled polyethylene and crumb rubber composites modified asphalt with improved aging resistance and thermal stability

Yuetan Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, CR/PE composites were used to improve the aging resistance of modified binder blends. The composites formed a thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) network that resisted the aging severity of the binder blends. The well dispersed PE particles interacted with the diffused CR particles to form a network, enhancing the thermal behavior of the binder blends.

Effect of crumb rubber size on the performance of rubberized asphalt with bio-oil pretreatment

Yong Lei et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of crumb rubber size on asphalt performance, finding a positive correlation between crumb rubber size and fatigue life, with the composite modified asphalt containing 40 mesh crumb rubber showing the lowest segregation index. This indicates that crumb rubber size influences the performance of the composite modified asphalt. The pretreatment of bio-oil on crumb rubber promoted the swelling and depolymerization of crumb rubber in the melt asphalt.
